About Me

So to start with I will give you some fast facts about me before I dig down deep into things. I am 37 years old. I am divorced and I am also the mom of 3 beautiful daughters. I am really close to my parents and my brother and sister, my family is just really important to me. I am disabled but you'll read more about that further down and so having hobbies and even writing a blog can be difficult at times but disabilities/sicknesses have a tendency to isolate people which is very true in my case and restarting my blog is one way that I'm hoping not only to be able to express myself when I'm able to but also to feel less isolated from society. So keep reading to learn more about me and what you'll find here at The Crafty Book Nerd.

I love to read and make art and that is what this blog is all about my two favorite hobbies.

I've tried many different blogs and have even separated my two hobbies into two different blogs and let's just say none of that worked for me at all so I am going back to my roots.

I've gotten rid of domain names owned by me and I also did away with all the fancy wordpress.org/bluehost crap too, Blogger may not be perfect but it is where I started and I feel much more comfortable on this platform and less lost technological wise. I have even taken my old blog name and the blogger domain I could get that was as close to my original one as possible.

I hate re-formating so I'm going to just go through and re-blog my old blog posts that I've merged into one on this blog, I am also going to stroll down memory lane with some pictures and memories from blog posts that have long been deleted and gone, but the pictures still survive in google's album archives, so I'll definitely be strolling down memory lane.

So let's start with my love of reading and pretty much anything related to books. I've always loved to read, I was that kid with their nose always stuck in a book where I found adventure and intrigue in my otherwise pretty mundane childhood on my grandparent's 100-acre dairy farm in Western Maryland. We lived in the boonies and I miss it because I live in the suburbs now and I hear cars instead of crickets, but that could be a whole blog post all to itself so we will move on, needless to say, we had a bookmobile that was my saving grace every summer when the school library was closed. I can still remember that van with the shag carpeting in it. When I think of book heaven this is what I dream of, sad I know because there are much nicer places to go and just be with books, but this bookmobile made such a huge impact on my life that I just automatically associate it with reading bliss. I am now a mom of three daughters and I am constantly telling my girls how lucky they are to have such a huge selection of books at our public library at their fingertips, but they just don't get it youtube has swallowed their brains whole, well except Addie but that's only because she's only 3.

I used to read a lot, I mean a hundred books a year and then I got sick with a really bad infection in my mouth when I had my wisdom teeth taken out and I didn't get any better for months I actually became allergic to penicillin because I was on it for so long. I stayed sick even after the infection was all cleared up it took me years to get a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia along with some other diagnoses and the brain fog and reading just don't work together so I read snatches here and there when the fog is not that bad. I still struggle with my health because even though I have been diagnosed there is still not a lot known about these two diseases and doctor's can be such cruel imbeciles sometimes, but I'm working on finding the right care team for me it is just taking a really long time. So you will hear about my reading struggles and my triumphs on here and I really hope to build an online support network of people in similar situations or just compassionate people that care through this blog.

Now onto my art. Art means different things to different people but to me, art is when you create something whether it is a collage, a painting, a poem, or a bird feeder; if you created something you made art in all its many forms! I used to use glue and scissors but due to my health I make digital art mostly when I am able to it is something that makes me truly happy and it keeps my mind active even when I'm in a brain fog I can still play around on Photoshop a little so it definitely helps with the mind-numbing boredom. I do have to use digital element kits to make these manipulations because I am unable to make my own due to my health limitations.
I use kits from the amazing women at:
Mischief Circus

ScrapbookGraphics

And Tangie Baxter

Along with her super talented mother,

Rebecca McMeen.

Keeping up with all the different elements and different designers I use in any of my pieces would be a daunting task and simply take to long for me to enjoy making art so if you see a piece and want to know the designers or kits used I can try and figure it out but if you just check out these amazing artist/designers and their websites/stores, there is where you will find all the lovely things I use in most of my digital creations and some of my hands on projects also. (I am slowly starting to credit each of my pieces with the artists that I get my digital elements from.)

All my digital creations are published on here at 72 dpi so that there is no printing of them, which is not allowed ever.

So besides my family, those are my passions and I hope to be able to share with all of you and hopefully, you'll share back and let me know what books you like or recommend a different digital designer I really want conversations to flow from my end and yours so don't be shy you can always leave a comment or email me.

Thanks for stopping by and visiting with me I hope to see you all here very often,
Blessings to all,
Amy
